Gifted Education in Ohio is soon to undergo major changes. In order to best serve students, ODE has proposed minimum minutes/hours that students should be served. At the present time there is not a minimum number of minutes required for service. However, in the original rules established in 1984, all students who were served in a pull-out program had to receive 5 hours of service with the GIS (Gifted Intervention Specialist.) The proposed new rule re-establishes minimum hours of service to insure that students are receiving true intervention.
