Special Education

Supervisor: This program falls under the general supervision of the superintendent
Purpose: To direct the implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for educating handicapped pupils and to be proactive in the coordination of the special education program for handicapped students who reside in the local school districts.
Goals:
  • To facilitate the implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for education handicapped pupils who reside in the local districts by supervising and coordinating all facets of the special education program and providing accurate information to superintendents regarding special education requirements and mandates to ensure students needs are met.

Strategies toward achieving goals:

  • Stay informed of all current federal and state mandates that affect special needs children.
  • Implement MFE/IEP procedures in accordance with IDEA and No Child Left Behind legislation.
  • Ensure all requirements for student placement/participation in special education are met according to teacher/administrative collaboration.
  • Provide districts with staff development to meet federal and state guidelines.
  • Keep superintendents informed of all aspects of the special education program, especially any potential problems or inadequacies.
  • Administer Title VI-B Funds with approval of school district superintendents.
Deliverables:
  • Monitor all aspects of the special education program in assigned districts.
  • Collaborate with district administrators and teachers to determine best plans for providing an appropriate education for handicapped students.
  • Direct implementation of computer generated content standards, goals, and objectives to insure teacher meet all student needs when completing the academic portion of IEP's
  • Provide high quality staff development in all areas of special education.
  • Attend the majority of MFE/IEP meetings in assigned districts.
  • Maintain accurate CAFS records for reimbursement.
  • Complete evaluations of appropriate special education staff.
