89 Years of Quality Service

In January 1914, the 80th Ohio General Assembly established the “New School Code” which created County Boards of Education. The Perry County Board served a student population of 7,722 and Hocking County Board served 6,133 students. In 1914 there were twenty-five school districts in Perry County which included thirteen high schools. In Hocking County there were twenty-five school districts and two high schools. There have been a total of eight Superintendents serving the Perry County Office of Education since 1914:

D.E. Riggle 7 yrs. 1918-25
Rachel O. Yaw 3 yrs. 1925-28
O. E. Hearing 32 yrs. 1928-60
W. J. Jones 12 yrs. 1960-72
Randall Talbot 12 yrs. 1972-84
Richard Fisher 14 yrs. 1984-98
Dale L. Dickson 1998-Present

The Perry-Hocking County Boards merged in 1997 to form one Educational Service Center which currently serves 10,515 students in five school districts (four in Perry County and one in Hocking County). The Perry-Hocking Educational Service Center continues its 89-year history of providing quality service and leadership to students, staff and communities of its client school districts.
