Home Education

Supervisor:	This program falls under the general supervision of the superintendent
Purpose:	The Home Education Process Monitoring service exists to ensure that home educated children are being provided the required educational opportunities as stated in the Ohio Revised Code for students who are excused from the compulsory attendance rules.
Goals:	To ensure that home educated students are receiving an appropriate education to allow them to succeed. Verify any child not attending their school district of residence has met the requirements and has been approved for Home Education for the current year. Terminate Home Education or implement a plan of improvement for students who are not achieving academically as per ORC.	Strategies toward achieving goals: Provide parents with complete informational packets to allow for appropriate planning. Review each application in detail to determine comprehensive educational program. Meet and discuss the responsibilities and requirements are met. Maintain open communication with parents to ensure all requirements are met. Work collaboratively with each district regarding re-enrollment status for Home Education students. Collect and analyze annual assessments for each Home Educated student.
Deliverables:	Provide participating schools, Logan-Hocking and Southern Local Schools, with notification immediately when a student is approved for Home Education Provide Superintendents and appropriate school personnel with monthly updates regarding the status of all Home Education students, whether approved or considered truant. Prepare and distribute Home Education packets each summer for reapplication for the approximate 300 students participating in Home Education.

Origin:	Parents have long had the legal right to choose to educate their children at home rather than sending them to public schools. Originally, the reasons for home education were for religious or health reasons. In more recent years, many other reasons have become acceptable, although the Ohio Revised Code does require specific information regarding the home education process to be provided by the parent.
